USARA License:
All team members must be members of USARA. You may purchase a single day event for $8 from us at check-in. We highly recommend getting yearly memberships on-line at usara.com (your membership will go through faster)
Paddles and paddling gear:
You will not need to carry any paddle gear beyond portaging.
Plotting and UTM:
You WILL have to plot most if not all your checkpoints and transition areas. Know how to use a UTM plotter. You will not have to plot on course. You will be plotting (most likely 1:24000 scale) after you get your maps Friday night. (Any additional maps handed out during the course will be pre-plotted for you)
Rogaine:
At least part of this race will have a rogaine or score-o segment where your team decides how many checkpoints to get.
Support Crew:
Your support crew should be able to navigate roads using their own road map; imagine arriving at a TA and having to wait for your support crew. One vehicle per team, no exceptions. Post Race Breakfast is available to your support crew for $5 per person. We recommend all Support crews have a Delorme NH Gazetteer, available at Eastern Mountain Sports and anywhere maps are sold.
Map Cases
We've noticed many maps not making it through our races. A good map case is ALOKSAK. The best price with shipping I've found is from Zombie Runner. If you want just the bags and not the case, get the 12x12 size.
Orienteering Maps:
We will be using orienteering maps again for this race. Learn what all those colors and symbols mean.
Canoe Wheels
You'll want to bring canoe wheels. Not mandatory, but you will want them.
July 7 2008
Rooming:
These are dorm rooms for the students. So I would imagine them to have a single sized bed with mattress and desk. Bathrooms would be down the hall. You would not share a room with people who are not on your team.
If you want showers Sunday morning or to store your extra things, you would need to keep your bed Saturday night. It would be best if you reserve your bed for both Friday and Saturday nights. It's on site! no extra driving! Helps the school!
Reserve # of beds and we'll set it up so that your team are in rooms by yourselves. (ie: if you need 4 beds, you'll get a quad or 2 doubles or 4 singles)
June 30 2008
New Race Headquarters will be at Kimball Union Academy. Long story but this will work well as rooming is affordable and on site! Contact us to reserve a bed which will be in 1 bed, 2 bed or 4 bed rooms. $25 per person, per night. Keep your bed Saturday night and if you finish early, you can nap before awards and breakfast!
June 19 2008
We are in transition and will provide race venue information shortly. Our venue will include accommodations available for teams to book.
